Found Footage Festival comes to the Beachland Ballroom June 22nd

For a decade now, the Found Footage Festival has been collecting video oddities and presenting them to the public. These are the cultural artifacts that no one else wanted to preserve, and which some probably wish had simply vanished from the face of the earth. Strange ephemera like exercise tapes, commercials, bloopers and outtakes, and corporate training videos.The fest even helped launch underground sensation "The Winnebago Man" into his own documentary feature (check out our review here).

Festival curators Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher will be presenting their seventh collection of this weirdness live at the Beachland Ballroom on Sunday June 22nd at 8:00 pm (doors open at 7). According to the festival website, this edition of the festival is, “jam packed with newly unearthed treasures, featuring singing rabbis, petulant news anchors, coughing snake handlers, bodybuilding clowns, and two body parts never before seen in the festival!” How can you pass that up? Goblin live in concert (December 5th at the Beachland Ballroom)

It's not often that we here at The Cleveland Movie Blog do a concert preview. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is the first time. It also isn't very often that soundtrack specialists Goblin play the United States, let alone Cleveland. In fact, when Goblin takes the stage at the Beachland Ballroom on Thursday December 5th, it will be their Cleveland debut.

Goblin got their start in Italy in 1972 under the name Cherry Five. They released one self titled album worth of prog rock before being called in to rewrite and perform the soundtrack to Dario Argento's 1975 film DEEP RED, at which point they changed their name to Goblin. They did one more prog rock album, 1976's ROLLER, before collaborating with Argento again on the soundtrack to 1977's SUSPIRIA. From then on, the band would record numerous soundtracks for horror and crime films, including George A. Romero's zombie classic DAWN OF THE DEAD, aka ZOMBI in European markests.

The band's line-up has shifted frequently over the years, so the recent departure of original keyboad player Claudio Simonetti is hardly shocking. The current incarnation of Goblin includes original members Massimo Morante on guitar and Fabio Pignatelli on bass, as well as long serving drummer Agostino Marangolo and keyboard player Maurizio Guarini. They are joined by Adian Zammit on keyboards.

Short film 'I Am Alive' premieres at the Beachland Ballroom July 15th

Zombies are real! The zombie apocalypse is over and the nation has started to rebuild. Society is

attempting to return to normal. Unfortunately there are still thousands of shambling zombies roaming

the country side. But, don’t worry, the Government has a cure... sort of. The story centers around a

small group of "Recoveries" (the PC term for Zombie) slowly easing their way back into humanity thanks to a Government induced cure which includes regular Group Therapy meetings. But sometimes the cure is worse than the sickness, especially when you're caught between the world of the living and the world of the living dead!

Yes, you could travel to the Cannes International Film Festival in France. But then you'd stand a good chance of being mistaken for a child-kidnapper, losing your luggage, ordering a plateful of oysters you can't eat, and running afoul of an egomaniac director played by Willem Dafoe. It happened to Mr. Bean.

Instead save gasoline, stay home, spare the oysters and support the locals, with this week's Ohio Independent Film Festival (OIFF), an annual tradition since 1994.
