It tells of a happy East German/Norwegian woman, the child of a Norwegian mother and a German occupation soldier, who is conflicted when asked to testify against the Norwegian state on behalf of other “war children.” Cleveland premiere.

Directed by Claude Lanzmann. Claude Lanzmann’s four-hour coda to his epic Holocaust documentary Shoah finds the dogged filmmaker exhuming a long, troubling interview (shot in 1975) that did not fit into his nine-hour masterpiece. The subject is Benjamin Murmelstein, an Austrian rabbi who led the Jewish council at Theresienstadt, the Nazis’ notorious “model” concentration camp. Though branded a collaborator by many, Murmelstein argues that he negotiated daily with Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann to aid and save the Jews at Terezin. Cleveland premiere.

Directed by Lisa and Rob Fruchtman.  In this uplifting documentary, female survivors of the Rwandan genocide (both Hutus and Tutsis) come together to make history—forming Rwanda’s first all-woman drumming troupe and then opening the country’s first-ever ice cream shop. Alexis Miesen, an ice cream entrepreneur and Rocky River native who is one of the “stars” of Sweet Dreams, will answer audience questions after the screening. Cleveland premiere.
