Apollo Theatre Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Classic Film Series

[Press release from Cleveland Cinemas.]

The Apollo Theatre (19 E. College St., Oberlin, OH) is celebrating 100 years of lighting up the big screen in Oberlin. While the first film that played at the Apollo back in 1914, Thor, Lord of the Jungles, has faded into obscurity, the Apollo has remained a staple institution in the community.

Originally a single-screen silent cinema, the Apollo has undergone transformations over the years as the movie industry has changed with the times. First adding sound in the 1930’s and then a wide screen in the 1950’s, the Apollo has continued to adapt and now boasts two screens featuring the latest digital projection and sound technology.

One thing has never changed and that’s the theatre’s dedication to showing entertaining and challenging films. As the Apollo looks forward to its second century in the movie business, the theatre will showcase a selection of classic films including two featuring Oberlin College alumni.
