[Press release from Cleveland Cinemas.]
The Cedar Lee Theatre (2163 Lee Rd., Cleveland Hts) will be treating
science-fiction fans to a marathon of classic flicks as atomic monsters and
evil aliens return to the big screen. On Saturday May 4, 2013, the theatre will
present its first ever SCI-FI FEST
as part of the ongoing Melt Bar & Grilled Late Shift series.
“Just as our 12 Hours of Terror marathon at the Capitol
Theatre has become an annual event for horror devotees, we’re hoping to do the same
for sci-fi fanatics at the Cedar Lee Theatre,” says Dave Huffman, Cleveland
Cinemas’ Director of Marketing and programmer for the Melt Bar & Grilled
Late Shift. “I love all the films we’re showing and I can’t wait to see them on
the big screen.”
The four films chosen for the inaugural series are:
GODZILLA (Gojira) (1954) – 8:00 PM
This original,
Japanese version of the classic monster movie is required viewing for any
sci-fi fan or movie buff. Featuring great miniature effects and some of the
best monster stomping ever filmed, this movie created its own sub-genre of
science fiction and launched one of the longest-running series in film history.
THE MATRIX (1999) – 10:00
PM
Keanu Reeves
stars as Neo in the Wachowski Brothers’ brilliant flick about the false reality
of mankind. Featuring incredible special effects and a great performance by Hugo
Weaving as the villain, Agent Smith, The
Matrix remains one of the best sci-fi films of the last 20 years.
TOTAL RECALL (1990) – 12:30 AM
Director Paul
Verhoeven takes us and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Mars for this incredibly fun
action film, about a man whose memories have been erased and who slowly
discovers that the life he’s been leading is all a lie. Co-starring Sharon
Stone and, of course, Kuato.
THE LIVE (1988) – 2:30 AM
“Rowdy” Roddy
Piper stars in director John Carpenter’s sci-fi action film about a
construction worker who finds a special pair of sunglasses. These glasses allow
him to see that some people are actually aliens that are working to keep mankind
under their control. 25th Anniversary presentation from a new 2K DCP
from Universal.
Between shows,
audience members will have the chance to win door prizes including movie
passes, Blu-ray discs and gift certificates.
Marathon tickets good for all four films are $16 and available
in advance only. Day of tickets for individual films are $5 each. Marathon tickets
can be purchased at the theatre box office or online at clevelandcinemas.com. Individual
movie tickets will only be available at the box office on May 4th and
will go on sale one hour before show time.
