On February 3 at 7:30pm, Marie-Anne Toledano, cultural attaché of the French Consulate in Chicago, will officially present Ewing with his award in a short ceremony hosted by CIA and CMA in CIA’s Aitken Auditorium at 11141 East Boulevard.
Following the ceremony and cocktail reception, the Cinematheque will show one of Ewing’s all-time favorite French films, Le ciel est à vous (The Sky Is Yours, aka THE WOMAN WHO DARED). Jean Grémillon’s 1944 masterpiece, undistributed in the U.S. and shown here in a rare archival print, tells of a provincial married couple (Madeleine Renaud, Charles Vanel) whose mundane, middle-class life together is turned upside down by a sudden passion for flying.
Special admission for the award ceremony, reception, and film is $10, or $7 for Cinematheque members and CIA students and staff.
Midnight Madness Continues at Cleveland Cinemas
Cleveland Cinemas continues its series of special midnight screenings in February. The Melt Bar and Grilled Late Shift series presents THE BREAKFAST CLUB on Saturday February 5th at the Cedar Lee Theater with screenings at 9:30pm and midnight. On February 19th the series comes to the Capitol Theater with ROCK & ROLL HIGH SCHOOL screening at midnight only.
Cleveland Cinemas also hosts the IFC Midnight Movie series, which brings the psychological thriller IN THEIR SLEEP to the Cedar Lee on February 5th at midnight. The series continues February 19th at the Capitol Theater with the horror film VICTIM. In contrast to the Late Shift series, which presents old favorites, the IFC series presents new films that have the potential to become cult classics, and that you just won't see in theaters any other way.
